Remember us talking about a day like today many years ago in Boston. Your bold vision for the kind of leadership our people need + deserve has been inspiring us from your first historic run in ‘09. Your integrity, compassion, fortitude, brilliance, love for the people and example have been a joy to witness from near and far. Keep soaring my dear sister. Love you DEEP 🙏🏾

The glorious Dr. Maya Angelou would have been 90 today. She told the story many times of how she avoided celebrating her birthday after her friend, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was assassinated on her 40th birthday in 1968. Instead, she and her friend, Coretta Scott King, would “meet or talk or send each other flowers.” In this clip, Dr. Angelou is reciting her poem, “Weekend Glory” in 1987 at the Lewisham Theater in South London. You can watch the entire 37-minute performance on YouTube. #MayaAngelou
